About Us
Awaken Childcare is under the mission and outreach of Awaken Church in Wallace, NC. Awaken Childcare is focused on caring for and developing a love of learning in a Christian atmosphere and a readiness for kindergarten that emphasizes social skills, academic preparedness, and emotional and spiritual development of the child.

Your child’s brain doubles in size during his first year of life and is at 90% of its adult size by age 5. Research has shown that the quality of a child’s experiences in the first few years significantly shapes how their brains develop into adulthood. Awaken Childcare utilizes a blend of the best practices. We believe that the environment is the third teacher, right after you, as the parents/guardians, and our skilled teaching staff. You will notice intentional “invitations to play” to encourage curiosity and exploration. Children are capable of so much more than we often give them credit for, so we give opportunities for them to be independent with practical life skills.

The Experience Curriculum is part of the daily structure in each classroom (infants – preschool) to strengthen language development, cognitive skills, and social emotional awareness. The curriculum caters to each child depending on their age, developmental stage, and ability.

You will get weekly and daily updates on your child’s learning through the Brightwheel app, including the weekly lessons, specific notes on your child’s learning, and pictures of your child doing various activities. Your child’s progress is tracked with a personalized portfolio and progress monitoring reports. Your child’s teacher participates in monthly professional development.

Included in the curriculum is Experience God where children learn all about God’s love and grace for them through stories, songs and fun projects. Once a week, children ages 3 – 5 years old will join together for “chapel” to sing and dance to child-friendly worship songs and a short faith-based message/story from our center director.
